Senior Web Developer

Fronter is seeking a Senior Web Developer with at least 5 years experience, for a full-time position at our head office in Oslo.

As a Senior Web Developer you will be a key part of an agile cross-functional development team responsible for developing tools and core functionality in the Fronter learning platform. You will work closely with all team members, including developers, product owners, and operations located in Oslo, and QA in Mumbai. You’ll get to participate in all team activities, from planning to implementation, QA and deployment.

Fronter is a platform historically implemented on a LAMP stack, but it is to an increasing extent being decoupled and implemented in several languages and frameworks. JavaScript (Node.js, Angular.js), Python and Swift, together with Java for Android development, and database technologies like Elasticsearch, MongoDB and Titan, currently stand out as the most important.

You’ll get the opportunity to work with a large and diverse range of languages, systems and technologies. You don’t need to know everything in advance, but you must have expert level knowledge in several key areas. We also expect you to be professionally curious, able to continuously learn and suggest new technologies as needed.
Though your focus will be primarily on front-end (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript and RESTful APIs), you are encouraged to continuously develop your skill set across the stack, and take a keen interest in the other disciplines needed for continuous release.
You must have a “can do” attitude, with a thirst for knowledge and a drive for self improvement. Most importantly: you must care about your team, your code and the end user’s experience.
As a Senior Developer, you will act as a mentor for co-workers asking for assistance or advice.

Mandatory qualifications

• 5+ years web development experience
• Excellent English skills, both written and oral
• Excellent demonstrable HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript knowledge
• Professional experience with jQuery or similar libraries
• Professional experience with Angular.js, Ember, Knockout or similar frameworks
• Professional experience with CSS preprocessors such as SASS and LESS
• Professional experience with TDD - test driven development - using best of breed tools for Javascript development
• Grunt or similar build step technology
• Excellent understanding of modern web application development
• Experience with SOA and modern web architecture
• A good understanding of RESTful Web Service API’s
• Software design patterns

Preferred qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent 
• Candidates with proven skills and relevant experience will be considered 
• An eye for great user experience and an ability to communicate your ideas
• Experience with developing for web accessibility (WCAG compliance)
• Source code management with Git 
• Node.js based web application development
• Continuous delivery to cloud IaaS and PaaS providers such as Amazon EC2 and Heroku 
• Experience with Selenium WebDriver or WebDriverJS
• Other programming languages, such as PHP, Python, Perl, Java, Clojure, Scala or Ruby

Bonus qualifications

• Linux/Unix server experience
• Experience with system administration and devops responsibilities
• Experience with Linux containers and microservices using Docker or similar
• Experience with automated build deployment stacks using Puppet, Ansible or similar
• Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, or similar
• BDD - behaviour driven development with Cucumber or similar tools
• Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean Software Development, Lean Startup, XP and similar
• Native iOS or Android development
