KINUKO Y CRAFT ;

One of the most widely respected and well-known fantasy artists in the United States today.

She is a storyteller, and her work encompasses book covers, opera posters, fairy tale books, and magazine covers.

Kinuko Yamabe Craft is known for meticulous attention to detail, a passionate love of fine art, and a deep knowledge of art history.

BIOGRAPHY:

Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan on January 3, 1940.

Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1964 from the Kanazawa College of Art.

Came to the United States in 1964 to study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Craft illustrated the cover art of the Folger Library editions of Shakespeare's work.

Inspired by the works of Leonardo da Vinci, the Pre-Raphaelites, and Symbolist painters. Her work is done with a combination of artist oils and watercolor on clayboard gesso panels.

Craft has illustrated picture books (fairy tale and classic mythology) jackets for fantasy book jackets, opera posters, fairy tale books and painted cover art for many national magazines (Time, Newsweek, and National Geographic)
