Jin-tae is a happy shoeshining boy, planning to marry Young-shin soon. However, with the outbreak of the korean War, Jin-tae along with his brother Jin-seok are forcibly conscripted into the army. He volunteers in every suicidal mission in order to earn the medal of honour, the only way that Will secure the discharge of his younger brother. Jin-seok misunderstands his good intentions as an obsession with fame and Glory. It is only at the fatal end that he comes to realize the true meaning of his older Brothers sacrifice
