Kishin Shinoyama, b. 1940 - d. 2024, was one of Japan’s foremost photographers.

A Fine Day was originally commissioned as a series by the Japanese magazine Asahi Graph - a weekly print with global journalism perspective. Starting May 1974, the work is serialized over a six month period.

A Fine Day can be understood as Shinoyama’s situation report on actual events and people that were part of the public Japanese zeitgeist 1974.

When originally issued 1975, the publishers marketed A Fine Day as: «An epoch-making photo book that opens up new documentary horizons».
