Researcher in Empirical Microeconomics
Are you eager to address important societal questions? Would you be interested in joining an accomplished research department specializing in applied microeconomics? We are searching for a new colleague with a solid foundation in empirical microeconomics/econometrics and a proven track record in research and analysis using large datasets, preferably sourced from administrative registries.
The position is in Unit for Population and Public Economics. The unit conducts research spanning a wide array of issues, including but not limited to labor, pensions and benefits, health, education, family policy, welfare, social mobility, immigration, and fertility. The unit also operates and develops demographic and economic models for government ministries. Our work is primarily empirical, utilizing data from Statistics Norway (SSB), and aims to enhance our understanding of key societal developments, particularly in Norway, thereby strengthening the knowledge base for policy-makers. Integral aspects of the role include international publication, development of new research projects, and fostering close collaboration with academia and other expert networks.
Job description:
- Contribute to delivering empirical research at a high international level.
- Apply and develop methods for analyzing extensive registry data within relevant subject areas.
- Contribute to advancing the department's research environment by initiating new research projects and applications for funding.
- Contribute to public discourse and provide insights to various stakeholders, including the government, central administration, the Parliament, and labor market parties, to support informed decision-making.
- Represent SSB and the Research Department, both nationally and internationally.
Qualifications
- Completed doctoral degree in a relevant field, preferably in economics. Candidates with a master's degree as their highest academic qualification, who plan to submit a doctoral thesis in the near future, will also be considered. The thesis must be submitted before the start of employment.
- Documented high proficiency in statistical/econometric/quantitative methods.
- Experience in using empirical analysis tools (such as Stata or R), as well as managing and analyzing large datasets, especially registry data.
- Strong communication skills in English is a prerequisite. Proficiency in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) is advantageous. English-speaking candidates are expected to learn Norwegian.
