Title: Rare Shipwreck Coins – Spain 4 Reales (1556-1622) & Bolivia 8 Reales (1574-1622) - NGC Certified in Wooden Box
Description:
Unlock the mysteries of the past with these extraordinary Shipwreck Coins - a piece of history encapsulated in two remarkable treasures: a Spain 4 Reales coin (1556-1622) and a Bolivia 8 Reales coin (1574-1622).
In 1622, Francisco da Gama, Count of Vidigueira, set sail as the nominated Viceroy of India aboard the São José, traveling from Lisbon to Goa. The "Almiranta" (= the flagship) of the fleet, pursued and under fire from English and Dutch warships, ran aground on a reef in Mogincual (approximately 110 km south of Ilha de Moçambique). Carrying a cargo that included 25,000 Cruzados of the King's money and 142,000 Cruzados of private funds belonging to merchants and passengers, the valuable ship sank in rough seas. Extensive studies in key archives have enabled the remains to be located and identified within a defined maritime area using sonar devices.
Each silver coin from the São José comes with a certificate of authenticity and has been certified by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) according to denomination, country of origin, shipwreck details, condition, and classification.
The coins are delivered in an exclusive, classic box made of high-quality wood. The São José logo is depicted on both the top and inner cover of the box. Inside the box, the coins are securely fastened with an elegant holder (see illustration).
