Join us at Nel, where innovation meets opportunity! Our technology department is now hiring a talented and experienced engineer within Multiphysics & Simulation to join our team. In this role, you will play an important role in the development activities and be a part of the team to realize Nel’s R&D goals. This position reports to the Technology Director at Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser and will be based on the company's premises in Porsgrunn/Herøya or Notodden
Main responsibilities
- Develop and execute CFD simulations to analyze fluid flow, heat transfer, and related phenomena in Nel electrolyser stacks and process plant, including multiphase flows.
- Develop multiphysics simulation models to analyze and predict the behavior of Nel electrolyser stacks and process plant, incorporating multiple interacting phenomena such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, structural mechanics, electrochemistry, and electricity.
- Utilize commercial and open-source simulation software packages, such as COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, or OpenFOAM, to create, validate, and optimize simulation models.
- Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and researchers to define simulation objectives, develop modeling strategies, and interpret simulation results to inform design decisions and optimize product performance.
- Conduct parametric studies, sensitivity analyses, and optimization studies to explore design alternatives, identify critical parameters, and optimize system performance.
- Validate simulation results through comparison with experimental data, empirical correlations, or analytical solutions, ensuring accuracy and reliability of simulation predictions.
- Provide technical expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders, including participating in technical reviews and knowledge sharing sessions.
Key Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical, Computational, chemical, electro-chemical engineering or related field, with a focus on multiphysics simulation and computational modelling.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in multiphysics simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), or related areas, preferably in a research or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in multiphysics simulation software packages, such as COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS Mechanical, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of numerical methods, continuum mechanics, and physics-based modelling techniques.
- Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++ for scripting, data analysis, and automation of simulation workflows.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex engineering problems into mathematical models and computational simulations.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
