antik Villeroy & Boch 1876- 1887

selling just tureen

The antique tureen has a rare oval shape, two handles on the ends and on the lid. It is covered with a delicate meadow flower pattern in shades of blue. This pattern also extends over the handles and the top edge of the tureen.

The unusual tureen is stamped with the 13-pointed Mercury stamp and with "Villeroy & Boch Wallerfangen"

The 13-point Mercury stamp was used between 1876 and 1931. The use of the lettering "Made in Germany" was enforced by the British from 1887 (by the "Merchandise Marks Act").

As it is missing here, I assume that this tureen was made between 1876 and 1887.

I didn't find any damage to the tureen other than temporary.

The tureen has a few chips and cracks, so it's not for sale.
