My family and I are *urgently* looking to relocate our 7-year-old (born in 2016) Iberian Podenco. This beauty was born in Spain and we adopted him when he was 1 year old in Madrid. We have lived many happy years together and love him like he is part of the family, which is the reason we brought him over to Trondheim and also the reason we are heartbroken to have to relocate him.
We became first-time parents almost a year ago and we have been trying to do everything in our power to avoid this moment, but we can no longer care for Perry the way that he deserves.
The times we have had to leave him with other people while we are away, he is genuinely sad when we go to pick him up as his caretakers have more time to play with him and take him on long walks and hikes.
Perry is a very sweet dog with his owners, and with strangers, he has his reservations and may sometimes bark at them, but once he knows them he is a sweetheart who just wants a back scratch. He knows many commands (twirl, sit, jump, etc..).
He loves to run races with other dogs (and can go jogging with you!), and he gets very excited the times we have taken him to the dog park. He is ok with small dogs but with larger dogs, he sometimes barks at them. He also barks when someone rings the bell or hears strangers outside. He is a barker but he has never bitten anyone or any dog. He may jump at other dogs/people, but again he is not aggressive nor has he bitten anyone.
He has a seasonal allergy issue (pollen, grass), like many dogs, but because of this lovely weather, he has been many months without an outbreak. Since moving to Norway (2 years ago) he has only had one outbreak in early May last year. He eats grain-free dog food (has allergies to grains and meats except fish) and has sardines as treats!
We are giving him away (we are only charging a small amount for his things) with a travel crate (seen in pictures), a wool bed, a walking harness and leash, dog bowls, and a rug. He has a passport, nail file and clipper, 1 winter coat and 1 extreme winter jumpsuit, and a comb. The new owners must pay for the chip ownership transfer.
We would love for Perry to go to responsible adults, perhaps a family with older children who can play with him, without any other pets as he likes to be the only dog in the house. He is castrated and his only "issue" right now is he has a ball of fat on his elbow (circled in a picture), the vet has seen it, it's not cancer or anything life-threatening, it's just fat...
We love this dog so much that we would be willing to take care of him when you are away from town, but we can no longer have him with us full-time.
If you are interested please get in touch with me for a visit to see if you have chemistry :) by the way, he has chemistry with everybody! Except for people who are not dog people, he knows it, it's like an instinct!
Note: Perry will be nervous when you first meet him, this is natural to him, he is usually stressed the first few minutes, he will whine, and feel protective of his owners (sit in front of us), but after a few minutes (and a few back rubs) he goes back to his usual self. I mention this as he met someone interested in him, and one of the reasons they backed away was because he showed as stressed upon meeting, so we chose to inform it here so whoever decides to meet Perry should be aware of this. Like I said, it is temporary. His caretakers say it does not last past a few minutes when we leave him when we are out of town.
