Description

This vintage original lithograph (not offset) from the 1983 authorized facsimile edition of Henri Matisse's "Jazz Portfolio" depict abstracted images inspired primarily by the circus. . Originally created in 1947 when Matisse was in his 70's, "Jazz" is one of the finest and most famous examples of Matisse's cut-out work. In 1983, publisher George Braziller, the Estate of Henri Matisse and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) collaborated to create a special authorized edition reproduction of Matisse's Jazz portfolio which included reproductions of the beautiful original pochoirs by Matisse that were included in the 1947 portfolio. This authorized 1983 edition was printed in Munich, Germany.
