Data Engineer - Klaveness Dry Bulk

Klaveness Dry Bulk is a leading digital operator, pool manager, trader and service provider in the dry bulk market operating from offices in Oslo, Singapore, Dubai, Tokyo and Manila. We take data driven positions in the dry bulk freight market and enable other maritime professionals to minimize risk and maximize operational efficiency through our Market Manager platform.
Data Engineer – Klaveness Dry Bulk
We are seeking a Data Engineer to strengthen our QuantBook department in Oslo.
The QuantBook department is a part of Klaveness Dry Bulk and engages in quantitative trading in the freight-derivatives market as well as development of advanced data-driven tools for market prediction/analysis. QuantBook handles a wide range of data including timeseries (financial data, commodity prices, macro numbers), geospatial (AIS), etc, and maintains a range of modeling pipelines. The role will aid QuantBook in improving and expanding our rapidly growing infrastructure and system of data pipelines. You will be a part of a small team of strong and dedicated specialists as an integrated part of Dry Bulk playing an important role in shaping its core infrastructure.
Core responsibilities will be:
- Building and maintaining QuantBook’s technological infrastructure, including servers, databases, and data pipelines
- Designing systems for retrieval and consolidation of data from a wide range of data sources
- Aiding in the deployment of machine-learning models and other systems used in live trading
- Contributing to development of QuantBook’s codebase related to data storage/retrieval, transformation, and utilities for statistical work
- Contributing to development of systems for handling QuantBook’s portfolio; tracking trades, P&L, measuring risk, etc
- Working with quant/data-science team on construction and deployment of machine-learning features used in live models
Required Skills:
- Well-versed in the Linux shell and strong bash-scripting skills
- Experience with deploying and maintaining servers/databases
- Experience with building data pipelines
- Experience with data retrieval through APIs
- Proficiency in R, Python, or a similar scripting language
A strong candidate will also have:
- Experience with a wide range of data types; timeseries, numerical, categorical, geospatial, etc
- Familiarity with computational-science concepts; data structures, algorithms, time complexity, etc
- Exposure to basic networking concepts that are typically relevant to data infrastructure (ssh, HTTP etc)
- Experience with market data (e.g. prices) is a big plus
- Exposure to statistical use of data - machine learning, data cleaning, feature engineering, etc
As an ideal candidate, you
- Enjoy working with core tools like Linux built-in commands, bash
- Like to build systems from the ground up, using few dependencies
- Enjoy coming up with simple and robust solutions to seemingly complex problems
- Are curious about how things work and think critically about trends in technology
Qualifications and experience:
- BSc+ in computer science, data science, informatics, cybernetics, physics, applied mathematics, or similar
- Preferably 3-5 years of relevant work experience, but exceptional graduates with demonstrated aforementioned skills will be considered.
