Sometimes "more" is simply "better"

Of course, we know that numbers are not everything. But when it comes to digital audio, the technical specifications don't lie. That's why the Waversa WDAC 3C has an absolute world-class D/A chip in the form of the ESS Sabre ES9038Pro. And then there is the Waversa Audio Processor (WAP), which offers, among other things, an outstanding upsampler: Up to 1.5Mhz clock speed and a word depth of 32 bits are an announcement. We have listened extensively to the Waversa WDAC 3C and can confirm that well thought-out and consistently implemented upsampling offers real, comprehensible sonic added value. Musical flow, airiness, resolution and fine dynamics win to an astonishing degree. Because, of course, the environment for this miracle upsampler is also right: The entire hardware is state-of-the-art, and the signal processing is also at the very highest level.

WAP (Waversa Audio Processor)

Waversa has understood that digital music largely ignores harmonics due to the limitation of its resolution compared to real music. WAP and WAP/X provide a remedy: WAP is an FPGA-based audio processor (which, as I said, is responsible for upsampling, but also for a whole range of other tricks) and interprets the digital signal to bring it closer to an analog signal – real music. WAP/X as an extension for WAP reconstructs the even-numbered harmonics of real music (up to the 32nd harmonic) that were lost in digital recording or digitization. Digital music also sounds poignantly real, spatially spread out and natural.

WNDR (Waversa Network Direct Rendering)*

In addition to the five digital inputs, the Waversa WDAC 3C also offers a LAN port, which makes it a full-fledged streaming player. Of course, it also supports the proprietary network transmission protocol WNDR. The biggest problem with streaming networks that use DLNA is that the standard doesn't actually take continuous audio streaming into account at all. DLNA is simply a standard for packet-based data transmission that allows multitasking Ethernet switches to function seamlessly and with consistent accuracy. In this transmission method, (white) noise is generated during the packet buffering process, which greatly negatively affects the sound of audio signals. WNDR is a proprietary and dedicated audio transmission protocol developed by Waversa to solve this problem. It minimizes latency (delays) in the communication of devices connected to the network and ensures excellent noise immunity. In addition, with WNDR, there is no need for a conversion process between protocols, which effectively eliminates another source of error and thus improves sound quality. And last but not least, devices connected to each other via WNDR can use their WAP processors (see above) even better, as they are coordinated with each other.

The connection option for an external master clock is another extraordinary feature that can be used to take the precision of data processing to the extreme. This makes the Waversa WDAC 3C a universal and indisputable digital source.

An unbalanced and balanced output is available for connecting a preamplifier or integrated amplifier. The Waversa WDAC 3C can be perfectly adapted to its teammates via the four-stage adjustable output gain.
