Senior Researcher within Onshore geotechnics
NGI is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Researcher to join our team within onshore geotechnics and environment. Our current research is focused on urban geotechnics, data driven and sustainable approaches. This includes deep excavations and embedded structures in soft soils, as well as foundations and soil improvement. Additionally, we engage in instrumentation, monitoring and sustainability assessments while constructing transport infrastructure and groundworks for buildings.
NGI aims to lead the digital transformation for geotechnics through enabling access and utilisation of data, and coupling geotechnical projects with machine learning and data driven decision making. We work in close collaboration with research groups across NGI and our international research and academic network. Are you the right person to join us in driving the forefront of geotechnical research?
NGI is a world-renowned centre for geotechnical engineering and engineering oriented geosciences. Our research must be relevant to industry and the public sector, so that our results are used by the market and benefit society.
We believe in trust, openness and sharing – this has been at the heart of our research and collaborations since NGI’s societal mission was formed in 1953. Our societal mission is to develop geosciences and produce knowledge to build, live, and travel on safe ground. We solve this by combining research and consulting assignments, and being a bridge-builder between academia, industry and the public sector.
We have offices in Norway, the US and Australia, all with accredited laboratories. In addition, we deliver to a range of markets: offshore energy and CCS, geotechnics and environment, natural hazards and geodata and technology. At NGI we recruit the best minds worldwide and are one of the foremost locations for geotechnical expertise.
What will your workday be like?
As part of our team, you will:
- identify research calls and explore funding opportunities with support from our research advisors.
- lead research proposals within the EU and the Research Council of Norway frameworks.
- lead research projects with a wide consortium.
- represent NGI at workshops, conferences and other geotechnical events.
- have the possibility of working in large urban infrastructure projects to identify research gaps that need an applied research solution
- work closely with other disciplines such as environmental geotechnics, engineering geology, natural hazards, field and laboratory investigations, instrumentation and monitoring, and climate adaptation for holistic geoscientific solutions.
- get to know our entire organisation through project work, professional groups, learning arenas, and rotations between departments.
Who are you?
We are looking for a new colleague who:
- holds a PhD degree in geotechnical engineering.
- has post-doctoral research experience or is in an early academic role.
- pushes the state-of-the-art of infrastructure geotechnics through impactful research addressing both practical and societal challenges.
- demonstrates a good track record of proposal writing and winning grants.
- is accomplished in disseminating original research using peer-reviewed journals.
- aims to develop and lead a collaborative research group through obtaining external funding (e.g. Horizon Europe, The Research Council of Norway)
