Postdoc in radiation biology and digital histopathology
Project description
We are seeking a dedicated, creative and enthusiastic postdoc student at our Department of Radiation Biology. The position is available for 3 years with possibility for extension. At Department of Radiation Biology we work to understand radiotherapy resistance and develop new treatment strategies for cancer patients based on radiation. Our activity includes basic, biological studies, and translational and clinical work.
The position is associated with Heidi Lyng's research activity on clinical radiation biology. The selected candidate is expected to work on a project were digital histopathology and large scale molecular data are used to achieve new knowledge of metastatic disease and radioresistance in prostate cancer patients. The project is highly cross-disciplinary, with vital contributions from biology, immunology, physics and oncology, and the candidate will work in a team with biologists, physicists and clinicians.
Duties and responsibilities
The project will involve advanced analysis of histopathology images in combination with molecular data to achieve new biological insight into the progression of prostate cancer. A central task will be to generate spatial molecular profiles of biopsies collected from cancer patients and explore these data in relation to their localization within the tissue. Quantitative models and statistical analysis of large scale data will be important.
- Write protocols, reports and paper drafts
- Generate and analyze data
- Participate and engage in collaborations, meetings and scientific discussions
- Assist MSc- and PhD-students and researchers
Qualifications
The candidate must have the following qualifications:
- PhD in molecular biology, immunology, bioinformatics, biophysics or equivalent
- Significant, proven experience with image analysis
- Fluent in oral and written English
It is a great advantage if the candidate has the following qualifications:
- Knowledge on cancer molecular biology or immunology
- Experience with bioinformatics and statistical methods for large scale data
- Knowledge on radiation biology and radiotherapy
Your application must include:
- A cover letter including a brief account of your qualifications, research interests, and motivation for applying for the position
- Transcripts and diplomas showing completion of the master and PhD,
Personal qualities
- Have the capacity to complete tasks in a timely and structured manner
- Have high working capacity, be ambitious and highly motivated
