Are you a proactive and collaborative engineer who is passionate about working with underwater navigation technology?
What will your role and tasks be with us?
You will have the responsibility for helping Nortek customers understand our unique underwater navigation technology, and ultimately become a specialist helping internal personnel as well as end users. You will work with a team of professional and competent colleagues to help guide customers through their technical questions and provide advice during their design, development, integration and testing phases. In a parallel effort you will provide back-office support to Nortek’s global sales network. You may also be involved with internal testing in the field and at the Nortek facilities.
You will have an important role in our dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. Together with skilled colleagues from our sales, development, and support teams, you will help to ensure that our subsea navigation solutions meet new and existing customers' needs and thus create growth across all market segments. The growth potential in subsea navigation is significant, and your competence will be central to helping us achieve our goals.
Some travelling is expected as it is important to meet the customer at their premises – either at an office, workshop, or vessel – to assist with technical integration needs. Training of customers and colleagues will also be expected as a part of the position
Key responsibilities may include:
Customer support & problem solving: Provide technical support and resolve customer issues, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
Field testing & validation: Conduct field tests, validate system performance, and create comprehensive reports.
Data analysis: Review and interpret data to support customer applications and internal development.
Technical sales support: Assist the sales team with technical expertise during customer engagements.
Training & demonstration: Deliver offsite training sessions and product demonstrations to customers.
Documentation: Prepare clear and accurate documentation, including user manuals, reports, and technical guides.
System integration: Help clients integrate software solutions, and ensure they meet their specific needs.
Product development collaboration: Occasionally cooperate with the development team to contribute to the design, development, and specification of both new and existing products.
Desired qualifications:
Educational background: Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field. Relevant work experience may compensate for the lack of formal education.
Industry experience: Experience in a related industry, particularly with customer interaction, is preferred.
Technical proficiency: Familiarity with subsea or underwater navigation technologies and an ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
Problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze data and technical challenges to provide efficient solutions for customer needs.
Language proficiency: Fluent in both written and spoken English.
While it is an advantage if you have experience in both subsea navigation and customer support, we also welcome applications from those early in their careers.
Personal attributes:
Self-motivated & goal-oriented: You work independently, remain focused on goals, and strive for precision in your work.
Technical acumen: You have a good understanding of technical concepts and can apply this knowledge effectively.
Strong communication skills: You communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Collaborative: You work well with others, contributing to a positive team environment.
What do we do?
At Nortek, we develop and manufacture world-leading instruments that collect information about the processes taking place in our oceans. We need to understand more about the role of the oceans in areas such as climate, food production, health, business activities and energy production. Our technology is used, among other things, for studies of physical processes through the measurements of currents, waves, and turbulence. As a technology company we are forward leaning in use the same tools to aid the navigation of underwater vehicles and provide improved situational awareness. The need to understand the ocean is increasing, and our company is growing. With us, you will contribute to a product that can benefit millions of people.
What can we offer?
We are committed to your success with us and ensure that you receive good onboarding from the start. In addition to a digital introductory program, you will be enrolled in the Nortek Academy - an in-person introductory program that provides insights about all of the teams and processes happening at Nortek. It is also a great opportunity to meet other new employees from Norway and our 8 global subsidiaries physically.
At Nortek, you will be involved in many exciting tasks! You will experience great personal and professional development opportunities and gain valuable insights into our business.
Although we are established in many countries, as a Norwegian-owned company we have managed to maintain an informal tone and short decision-making paths. As an employee with us, it will give you great opportunities to influence our future and you will hopefully see the result of what you are working on relatively quickly. With us, you will feel that your contribution makes a big difference.
Our culture, employee well-being and a good working environment are important to us. We have a good diversity of nationalities, ages and professional backgrounds and have several social activities that are driven forward by our own employees and our social committee. In 2024, we have hosted social events including bowling, olabil races, beer pong and pizza, and a rafting trip in Sjoa. Our employees have access to rent our company cabins – one in Norefjell and one in Southern France. We generally have low turnover and high job satisfaction.

Om arbeidsgiveren
Nortek designs, develops and produces scientific instruments that apply the Doppler principle to underwater acoustics in order to measure water in motion, such as currents and waves.
We provide truly innovative, robust, and accurate instruments, backed up by advanced software and comprehensive support to ensure customers maximize value from their measurements.
Our solutions make a big difference.
These instruments are used by scientists, researchers and engineers at renowned institutions and government agencies worldwide. They are employed in demanding environments that require state-of-the-art instrumentation that is reliable and easy to use.
Our exploratory devices help cast light on the workings of the world’s oceans, which occupy vast swathes of the planet, but are still little understood.
Most of Nortek’s technology is based on a scientific physical principle called the Doppler effect. This relates to the change in frequency (or pitch) when a sound source moves with respect to an observer.
By measuring these changes in frequency/phase, our instruments accurately measure profiles of speed and direction of complex water motion.
Nortek’s product portfolio ranges from wave measurement systems to single-point turbulence sensors and oceanic current profilers. Our product range covers four themes: ocean waves, ocean currents, turbulent flow and subsea navigation.
Our objective is to excite users with useful, innovative technology underpinned by oceanographic science and research. We work systematically with quality and are certified by leading quality assurance organizations.
