On 23rd November, 1979, Pink Floyd released the single ‘Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)’. It preceded the album ‘The Wall’ by a single week.

With a backdrop of recession, unemployment and the dawn of Thatcherism the single is the most fitting end to the 70’s decade both musically and artistically.

With Punk already burning out the song (Another Brick In The Wall) brought the mood of Punk and oddly Disco from the most unlikely of bands to do this. I can only think of one better better Number 1 single in my  entire lifetime (The Specials – Ghost Town).

The single was a surprise Christmas Number 1 and was the last Number 1 of the 70’s. There really couldn’t be a more fitting way to end the 70’s, it’s almost like this was supposed to happen. Had ‘The Wall’ been Pink Floyd’s last album too I strongly suspect they’d be reflected upon in even higher regard than what they already are…
