Programme Advisor (Temporary - 12 months)
Since 2021 WWF-Norway has been funding and supporting the implementation of our Civil Society portfolio "Delivering on the SDGs for Nature, Climate and People" (SIVSA). Through this portfolio WWF-Norway seeks to engage governments, companies, and financial institutions to develop, adopt, and implement policies, investment standards and plans to guide the sustainable development of three key sectors - energy, fisheries and infrastructure.
This work is done by cooperating with WWF country and regional offices to build capacity within civil society organisations (CSOs) and partnering with them to engage stakeholders in the energy, fisheries, and infrastructure sectors in China and six African countries. WWF works with local CSOs to influence policy development and implementation processes as the most effective path towards systemic change in environmental governance.
We are seeking a Programme Advisor for 12 months to cover for two staff members on short-term paternity leave in 2025. The Programme Advisor will manage individual programmes within the SIVSA portfolio focused on the energy, and fisheries sectors, including:
- Africa Energy Transition
- Southwest Indian Ocean Sustainable Blue Economy
- China Fisheries
The Programme Advisor will be following up and supporting WWF country and regional offices that are responsible for the implementation of these programmes within the SIVSA portfolio. Given the complexity of the programmes and the short duration of cover, the Programme Advisor will receive regular support from the Team Lead.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of the "Delivering on the SDGs for Nature, Climate and People" (SIVSA) portfolio.
- Responsible for the delivery of final evaluations across three programme portfolios (SIVSA, NICFI and Mangroves).
- Contribute to the process of developing further applications and proposals for related funding.
- Collaborate with other WWF offices and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in relevant field.
- Broad knowledge of international environmental policy. Specific knowledge of either energy policy or sustainable blue economy in Africa or other development contexts is an advantage.
- Experience in project management, budgeting, and project reporting. Specific experience in grant management within the development sector is considered an advantage.
- Experience in procuring and managing consultancies conducting external evaluations.
- Knowledge of relevant aspects of international environmental policy and the finance sector are considered an advantage.
- Flexible self-starter with great interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in cross-cultural environments.
- Location: Oslo
- Fluency in English is a requirement. Fluency in Norwegian and/or other relevant language is an advantage.
We offer:
- At WWF, you will be part of a very pleasant and inclusive working environment with competent and commited colleagues.
- You will gain valuable experience in an organization that is a commited challenger and a provider of solutions to many of the most important political issues of our time.
- At WWF, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in a knowledge-based and well-respected environmental organization.
- Office in central Oslo.
- We offer flexible solutions for working from home, and good welfare schemes such as paid lunch breaks, support for public transportations, internet at home, and exercise during working hours.
Application and CV must be in English. If you have any questions, please contact Steven McQueen (Team Lead): steven.mcqueen@wwf.no
Deadline: 17.11.2024
About WWF
WWF is one of the world's largest environmental organizations with a presence in nearly 100 countries. We work to stop the destruction of nature and create a future where people live in harmony with nature. WWF works knowledge-based and purposefully to create solutions to the underlying causes of climate change and loss of nature. Our values are courage, respect, integrity and collaboration.
In Norway, we work to preserve natural values and biodiversity in the sea and on land. We spend a lot of time influencing Norwegian environmental policy and legislation to achieve our environmental goals. In 2020, WWF ran the TV campaign An ocean of opportunities. We support international nature conservation and development projects in several African countries and in Asia. The work is done in collaboration with local people, local organizations and authorities. These projects are mainly funded by Norad. We have an annual turnover of around NOK 200 million, divided between public funds and funds from private donors and the Postcode Lottery.
We are Eco-Lighthouse certified, and our greenhouse gas emissions must be in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees
