"Anxiety Day ble laget på en spesiell vårdag i 2024 da solen skinte vakkert, fuglene kvitret og hele Norge nøt den friske varmen som var på vei inn i landet. Inne i kunstnerens lille hode derimot var det ganske så mørkt. Det var utålmodighet, lengsel, frykt og redsel som skapte massevis med energi i kroppen. Monkii visste ikke hva h*n skulle gjøre.. Jo, da maler man. Og slik ble dette fyrverkeriet av et fargesprakende maleri til på en vårdag i Drammen. "

"Stjerna. Et av mine favorittverk noensinne. Jeg virkelig elsker alle fargene og gleden som stråler ut fra bildet. Jeg hadde så mange Mikael'er i livet mitt at det var det han måtte hete. Han er stolt, han er ego, han skinner i seg selv, han er sterk, vakker og motivert. Han er et bilde på alle Mikaelene som strutter rundt i verden med brystkassa frem og hodet høyt hevet. Gjerne med litt maskara, gjerne med ekstra store muskler. Stolt viser han frem hans glory. Og jeg elsker det. Min stjerne."

"Geir er den første lille figuren med stort hode som jeg lagde til denne kolleksjonen. Ideen kom fra en kunde på den tidligere jobben. Geir er faktisk en av kundene som frekventerte den lille cafeen titt og ofte. Hans ekte navn er hemmelig, men ansiktet er lett gjenkjennelig. I hvert fall for meg. Han er en sprek, sprudlende og entusiastisk mann uten hår på hodet som strålte opp dagen min så jeg kjente livsgleden langt inn i sjelen. Han ser minst 20 år yngre ut enn han er, og er laget av et spesialmiddel som bevarer både livsglede og utseende i aller høyeste grad. Et lite supermenneske. Takk, Geir. Dette er min tribute til deg."

Aurora came spontaneously to the artist after working on her for some months. Suddenly the artist saw her sparkly, blue eyes and the turquoise, shiny hair in his mind. And she became alive. She is timid, she is shy. She has a small smile that she never can make big enough to fully enjoy. She tries to act confidently, but her body language exposes her inner conflicts. The original name for this amazing piece of pop art is Alien Apathy. A sincere description of the stare of her eyes and the body that has some extra terrestrial body parts. She claims her place in the world. She shows off just as she is and tries to be her best. Just like the rest of us.

Aurora has a special place in the artist collection. She looks almost identical to one person that Monkii knew. And she was created before they even met. This has always puzzled the artist. How can you make a painting of someone and meet them right after?

FRITHJOF:

Frithjof is a self portrait that was originally named Chained Meditations.

It is a piece of art that is deeply personal to Monkii. The painting shows how it felt to be locked in a job where the artist had no voice, no identity and no freedom. The black voids on the ankle and neck shows where the invisible, but strong, chains lay. The head is huge and holds all the thoughts of someone who struggles to break free. And that is what the artist managed to do. Life is so short, so magical, and we are able to fill it with all the creativity and playfulness we can imagine. We just have to break free. Now the painting means much more to the artist. It represents freedom, strength and a vibrant life. Courage and wisdom. The artist wants all of the artworks to inspire and lift the lives of the viewer.

The smart phone. And of course the TV. Monkii watches the world and its people dive deeper and deeper into the world of electronics and antisocial lifestyles. Have you seen the people when they sit at the train station? All of them with their necks bent, as if to bow to this glowing thing that is now their master. Hours and hours go by looking at videos and photos of other people living their lives. All while their own lives have almost stopped because of it. Where is your focus? What if the time spent on the phone could be spent in the forest with the magical nature that we have around us? What if we spent it with the friends we love? To make new friends, to be more inspired and feel more deeply the joy in this world.

Drip is a work that the artist made to recognize the beauty of the human body. It is pretty, full of life and tempting. The illusion is there for everyone of us. The illusion that another human can make you happy just by being naked together. Sometimes the illusion breaks and you experience all the damages this can create in life. Sometimes you fall in love and it is the most wonderful time in your life. The blood represents how the person you love can make you hurt even more than you imagined. Small scratches can create big wounds, and you might not even recognize it before it is too late. Love can hurt and it can bring joy. Just be careful and keep your mind open.
