About Guillaume Corneille:
Guillaume Corneille (born Cornelis Guillaume van Beverloo, July 3, 1922, in Liège, Belgium – September 5, 2010, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France) was a prominent Dutch artist known for his work in painting, printmaking, and ceramics. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde, post-war European art movement COBRA (1948-1951), which had a significant influence on Scandinavian art. Corneille was also a co-founder of the Experimentele Groep in the Netherlands.
Corneille’s art is renowned for its vibrant colors and imaginative motifs, often inspired by children’s drawings and African art, which he began collecting after moving to Paris in 1951. His works frequently feature landscapes viewed from a bird’s-eye perspective, exotic birds, and stylized forms.
Inspired by: Corneille was greatly influenced by artists such as Joan Miró and Paul Klee, both known for their surrealistic and abstract styles. He also collaborated with other members of the COBRA movement, including Karel Appel and Constant Nieuwenhuys.
