Sayed Haider Raza (1922-2016) was one of India’s most prominent modern artists. He co-founded the Progressive Artists’ Group in Mumbai in 1947, which played a crucial role in the development of modern Indian art. Raza is known for his colorful and abstract paintings that blend Western avant-garde styles with Indian visual traditions. His works are characterized by a deep connection to nature and the landscape, as well as a masterful use of color. Raza spent much of his life in France, where he also found inspiration for many of his works.
