The Bonneterie department store closed in August of 2014, after 125 years of uninterrupted service to the elegant Dutch public.
Maison de Bonneterie or for short Bonneterie in Amsterdam, is an old-fashioned luxury department store, which combines the long tradition of good service with the most modern selection of products. Today, Bonneterie offers to its clients clothes, shoes and fashion accessories of the world’s top designer brands.
Family business
At its beginning in 1889, Bonneterie has been established in by a couple Joseph Cohen and Rosa Wittgenstein as shop with hosiery(mainly stockings), in the times when it must have been a crucial piece of ladies clothing. Bonneterie run personally by Rosa Wittgenstein, had an enormous success.
In 1913, the present building of the Bonneterie has been built. Designed by a then known Dutch architect A.Jacot, with an interior in the style of Louis XVI, an imposing staircase and a glass roof. Soon after, the second Bonneterie shop in The Hague has been opened, again with an imitating the palace of Louvre interior.
When Joseph Cohen died in 1928, the shop has been taken over by his nephews Max en Alfred Cohen and when they got older, already after the WWII, by two other families of relatives Herz en Colland.
Until today, Bonneterie is a family business and a distinct feeling of personal care for the customer, the careful selection of products as well as for their style can be felt throughout the entire store.
Boutiques
Maison de Bonneterie InterriorBonneterie is divided into several boutiques, where some of them bear the names of the most famous brands and some are just shops of one kind of products as children clothes or bath accessories. The choice is selective, taste a bit traditional even in a disco like youth section, quality the highest possible.
The biggest brands as Burberry, Hugo Boss, Polo Ralph Lauren, Strenesse, Dolce & Gabanna, Max Mara, Replay, Sergio Rossi, Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel, Armani, Donna Karan, and Gant are here.
Luxury and tradition
Today Bonneterie is a multi brand fashion store with an accent on luxury and tradition. Still, a modern visitor may find something here for himself. The prices will not be higher than in any other shop selling on of these famous brands, the service will be always very good, because shopping at the Bonneterie is like stepping back into the end of the 19th century, the times of ladies and gentlemen.🖤
