Green Mountain is expanding into Germany with a cutting-edge data center in Mainz. This project, a joint venture with the German energy provider KMW, leverages their combined expertise to create one of the region’s most sustainable data centers. Situated in an established industrial area near Frankfurt, the center will be powered entirely by renewable energy and will utilize innovative cooling techniques from the nearby Rhine River. Advancing smoothly, with construction officially underway since September 2023, this facility aims to set new benchmarks for green infrastructure in Germany.
Join us as our Data Center Solution Director and lead the design of our new data center in Mainz, Germany.
About the role:
As the DC Solution Director at Green Mountain in Mainz, you will lead the design of innovative data center projects, ensuring the seamless integration of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems. Your leadership will align these projects with Green Mountain’s sustainability and innovation goals. Furthermore, you will drive the adoption of new technologies and innovation in data center design, contributing to our vision of Setting the Green Standard.
You will collaborate closely with teams in Norway and Germany, as well as our joint venture partner KMW, to deliver high-efficiency, high-quality, and sustainable infrastructure projects. Your role will involve managing client interactions, translating their needs into innovative and sustainable design solutions, and ensuring compliance with German regulatory standards and environmental requirements. You will also lead cross-functional collaboration to optimize designs for both multi-tenant and dedicated client installations in high-demand markets like Frankfurt.
This position requires a leader who understands the technical intricacies of data center infrastructure, including power distribution (e.g., UPS), cooling systems, and mechanical engineering. You will leverage the expertise of the Norwegian team, ensuring the Mainz project benefits from existing resources without duplicating efforts.
Who are we looking for?
You are a highly skilled professional in data center infrastructure design, with expertise in power distribution, cooling systems, and mechanical engineering. You bring extensive experience from managing large-scale industrial projects and leveraging the latest technologies to ensure efficient design processes. As a strategic thinker, you balance technical demands with innovation to drive project progress.
Collaboration is at the core of your approach, enabling you to work effectively within a matrix organization, coordinating efforts across teams in Norway, Germany, and with joint venture partner KMW. Your cultural competence and familiarity with German business practices and regulatory frameworks ensure smooth stakeholder management and compliance.
We prefer that you have:
- A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
- 8-10 years of experience in designing and planning infrastructure projects, preferably with exposure to data centers or similar large-scale industrial environments.
- Familiarity with the hierarchical structures, decision-making processes, and communication styles common in German business environments.
- Fluency in both German and English is essential. Norwegian is a plus.
- Willingness to relocate to Germany, with support provided, or be based in the Frankfurt/Mainz area.
