Inventas is looking for a fluid mechanics engineer
At Inventas, we believe that technology is the solution to the challenges the world faces today. We work according to our vision: Let us improve life through science and art.
With us, designers and engineers work together to solve problems that matter. At Inventas, you will work with clients who challenge us with engaging and meaningful projects across various fields.
When you join us, you will meet other talented people who are eager to share their knowledge, and we will strive to facilitate your professional development and career path.
And not least - we are a workplace that values culture-building and the importance of good colleagues. We care about the people who work with us because they are our most important resource.
Your role and responsibilities
As a fluid mechanics engineer at Inventas you will work with product development and guide design using your understanding about physics, fluids and thermodynamics. We are looking for somebody who can use both hand calculations and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to advise the design of physical products.
Tasks you would carry out include verifying a product developed by others, being part of a team as a subject matter expert, or leading the design of a fluid mechanics-driven product. In addition to working on simulation projects directly with our clients, we collaborate closely with our internal designers and engineers on larger development projects. Inventas works with a wide range of industries and products, so tasks may vary greatly from day to day.
Our customers seek assistance in the development of everything from advanced robotics to furniture for mass production. For fluid mechanics we have a lot of experience with topics such as aquaculture, energy harvesting, and thermal performance of electrical components. In addition, our projects vary in complexity, so we employ everything from hand calculations to more involved CFD simulations including complex transient multiphysics/multiphase simulations.
Determining the level of complexity needed for a project is often a challenge. It is expected that you can identify the neccesary complexity and define a set of tasks that will guide the product’s development in a timely and cost-efficient way.
Joining us, you would be part of a smaller team working on flow-related challenges, thus the right candidate has the opportunity to help shape the development and direction of the team.
Qualifications and experience
- MSc or PhD with experience in the practical application of fluids and thermodynamics for design.
- Previous experience working in the field is preferred, but the right candidate, fresh out of studies will be considered. The most important thing is that you are professionally engaged and can work both efficiently and independently.
- Experience with Ansys Fluent, OpenFOAM or similar CFD software.
- Experience with 3D modeling and geometry preparation for CFD.
- Experience with structural analysis is advantageous.
Skills and qualities
- Must be fluent in both written and verbal English.
- Most of our technical discussions can be carried out in English but Norwegian is our main working language and some proficiency is advantageous.
- We hope that you are an ambassador for your passions.
- You see the value in contributing with developing our culture.
- We find great value in your ability to translate your analytical skills into creative and good solutions.
- We would like you to be strong in analyzing user needs and proposing tasks to help our customers achieve their goals.
- A strong interest in business and especially the role of business in the green transition.
- Efficient and results-oriented with a high work capacity and ability to execute. You must be able to handle working under time pressure.
- Good teamwork skills, both with clients and colleagues.
- We appreciate it if you are curious about new challenges, approachable, and solution-oriented when working with new customers and tasks.
We offer
- A competent, creative, and value-oriented work environment with engaged colleagues
- Challenging and varied projects
- A broad professional environment with many talented people to learn from
- Inspiring premises (with good workshop facilities) at the Industribygget near Solsiden in Trondheim
- A network of great people at sister offices in the country’s largest cities
- Flexibility and freedom under responsibility
We are looking to fill this role in Trondheim, but excellent candidates will be considered at our sister offices.
A little more about us that might be useful to know:
Inventas is an employee-owned, independent consulting company that develops products and services together with its clients. We have nearly 30 years of experience in product and service development. We are now around 170 employees spread across offices in Trondheim, Molde, Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand, Asker, and Oslo.
We are committed to continually developing our culture and development methodology, with "Design Thinking" at the center. Based on our expertise, we help our clients with business plans, customer understanding, design, development, prototyping, and realization. Our overall goal is for our clients to succeed with the services and products we have helped create.
We maintain a high ethical standard and respect each other. This is a collective responsibility!
We are 65 employees in Trondheim, and demographically we have a great group of young people who enjoy traveling, freediving, cycling, and skiing. We also have parents with young children in the early stages of life, as well as a group of well-established individuals, some of whom have been with the company since its start in 1997. In summary, this gives an average age of about 40 years and a female representation of just under one-third, which we would like to see increase.
Trondheim currently has employees in all of Inventas' disciplines, including product development, product design, mechanical engineering, simulations, electronics, and cybernetics/mechatronics. We hold a leading position in design, innovation, and product development in the region, and work closely with Trondheim's many innovation hubs.
