Are you ready to lead innovation in maritime propulsion? Kongsberg Maritime is seeking a visionary leader to drive our Propulsion Concept Team to new heights. In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing cutting-edge propulsion concepts and maintain our position as the preferred choice for maritime solutions.

As the Director of the Propulsion Concept Team at Kongsberg Maritime (KM), you will lead the development of sales concepts for targeted segments. This role involves early engagement with ship owners, designers, operators, and yards to position KM as the preferred choice for propulsion solutions. We seek a strategic thinker with strong leadership, customer focus, relationship-building skills, and deep maritime industry knowledge.

In this role, you will represent KM at industry events, regulatory bodies, industry groups, and academic institutions, driving targeted campaigns and promoting KM's value proposition based on customer challenges and products. Communicating and quantifying this value through compelling financial models, you will demonstrate ROI and improved cash flow for customers.

Extensive travel is required to build relationships with customers, designers, and stakeholders, understanding their needs. Responsibilities include tailoring propulsion setups, providing OPEX/CAPEX analysis, and optimizing vessel designs to fit KM products and meet environmental regulations. You will also translate technical evaluations into financial propositions, demonstrating cash flow improvements and profit enhancements. Strategic and customer-centric approach are crucial for developing new business models and providing feedback for an agile and more market-focused R&D.

Additionally, you will recruit and manage a team of 1-2 Propulsion Concept Engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. The team will conduct CFD analysis, route optimization simulations, and translate regulatory requirements into solutions. Strong networking and cooperation skills are essential, with support from the wider KM organization.

Short-term goals

Your goals include establishing a clear value proposition for Merchant, Offshore, and Naval markets. Improve targeted marketing material for our Sales organization and conduct 5-10 owner/designer visits monthly discussing and develop concept solutions to solve customers challenges, reducing cost and environmental footprint. Increase KM's awareness of projects before tenders go out to shipyards and ensure KM solutions is included in the General Arrangement (GA) of vessels for 2025 tenders.

Qualifications

We seek a market-driven professional with extensive maritime industry experience. You have a strong technical background in propulsion systems and vessel design, a commercial mindset, and excellent networking skills. Proven leadership, exceptional communication, and presentation abilities are essential. You can translate technical feasibility studies into compelling customer value propositions and understand market trends and customer needs. Excellent written and verbal English skills are crucial; proficiency in other languages is a plus.

Location & reporting: We offer the flexibility to work remotely from any European country where Kongsberg has an office, which include Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Netherlands and Spain. This role is reporting to SVP Propeller Systems, based in Kristinehamn, Sweden.
