Senior Researcher at NORCE in Process Modeling
NORCE Energy and Technology is one of three divisions in NORCE. The division has close to 200 academic employees organized in four departments, and we have employees at all NORCE's locations.
The modelling and simulation group, which is part of the Energy and Technology division, works closely with the industry and delivers applied research. We have industry-oriented researchers with academic backgrounds who contribute to observing, understanding, modeling, and optimizing a wide range of processes and equipment.
We work strategically to contribute to a more digital and more sustainable industry. In addition, our expertise is used to deliver applied science in renewable energy and sustainability analysis. Our group has main activities towards the metallurgical industry, energy systems, industrial processes and products. The group works interdisciplinary with researchers from all departments in NORCE.
About the position
The modelling and simulation group now wants to strengthen the activity in process modelling and production optimisation. We are therefore looking for a senior researcher in a permanent 100% position with main activity in research and innovation aimed at this area.
The group is currently located in the offices in Agder (Grimstad and Kristiansand) and in Bergen, but employment at other NORCE locations is possible. Some travel activity must be expected.
Work tasks
The main tasks are to initiate and carry out technological research and development projects in collaboration with industry, public actors and external research partners, as well as to participate in collaborative projects with other departments within NORCE.
The candidate should be able to work independently and collaborate with other Norwegian and international researchers and with industry partners in the project groups. Researchers are expected to be familiar with the needs of Norwegian and European industry, produce high-quality research, contribute to project delivery, write scientific articles published in relevant peer-reviewed journals and present the results of the research in a Norwegian and international context. The candidate should have a good network within Norwegian industry and academia and thus actively contribute to creating new collaboration.
Required skills, expertise and experience
- A completed doctorate or master's degree in a relevant discipline
- Several years of work experience
- Documented experience from industrial research activities in relevant disciplines
- Relevant disciplines: process modeling, process control, optimization, and data analysis
- Relevant areas: process industry
- Programming and modeling skills
- Good English skills. Knowledge of Norwegian is an advantage
- Good teamwork skills combined with being proactive
- Good communication and organizational skills
Desired qualifications, skills and experience
- Project management experience from large projects
- Experience with EU projects and applications to Horizon Europe
- Experience and success with major national applications to the Research Council of Norway
- Several years of industrial experience
- Very good academic writing skills, reflected in publications in high-quality international peer-reviewed academic journals in the field.
- Experience with sustainability analyses
- Proven ability to collaborate in multi-, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teams, take the lead in organizing collaborations and to work independently.
- Excellent written and oral command of English
