For our Engineering team we have an exciting opportunity as Senior Development Engineer Electro, Automation, - & Controls available. Bergen Engines builds medium-speed reciprocating engines for marine and land-based applications. Our engines can be found operating in some of the most demanding and hostile environments on Earth, both on land and at sea. Bergen Engines represents one of Norway’s most important industries with a key role in the transition to net zero carbon footprint. Bergen Engines is a part of the Power Solutions Division of Langley Holdings plc but operates as a stand-alone company with its own branding.
To strengthen our development department for Electro, Automation and Controls, we are looking for candidates with a strong interest in and experience in automation. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of engine automation solutions with a wide scope from sensors and actuators on engine, wiring harness and junction boxes, IO, controllers, software and documentation.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Define control and safety functions, from simple threshold functions and single loop feedback control, to more advanced controllers, such as multi-variable controllers, MPC and reinforcement learning controllers.
- Development and maintenance of standard software
- Based on fundamental understanding of physical principles, and results from own simulation, drive component selection, sizing and verification (through simulation, and tests when required)
- Documentation package including wiring diagrams, layouts, flow charts, alarm lists, test procedure and user instructions
- The opportunity to follow our products from the development stage until complete commissioning
- Some travel activity
Your Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Automation/Electrical/Electronic/Cybernetics Engineering or equivalent
- (Relevant practical experience may compensate for lack of formal education)
- A strong understanding of physical, thermodynamical, - and mechanical principles combined with an understanding of automation
- Experience with reciprocating engines or similar thermal machinery
- Experience with simulations and modelling (MATLAB)
- Experience with programming of PLC and digital controllers
- Knowledge regarding Linux, Python, networks, and data bases is beneficial
- Fluent in English, preferably also in Norwegian
- Good English writing skills

Work location will be the engine factory at Hordvikneset, approx. 20 km north of Bergen city center.
