Gearbulk is an international shipping group providing high quality transportation services for various industrial sectors. Founded in 1968 by Kristian Gerhard Jebsen in Bergen, Norway, the company is 72% owned by Mitsui OSK Lines, and as from January 2025 28% owned by Marubeni Corporation, both based in Japan. In 2017 Gearbulk and Grieg Star established the joint venture G2 Ocean with headquarters in Bergen, Norway. The group operates the world’s largest fleet of open hatch vessels, specifically designed and equipped to transport unitized cargoes such as forest products, steels and non-ferrous metals and project cargo. Gearbulk is also involved in terminal operations.
The company’s head office is located in Switzerland with operational office in Bergen, Norway. We are looking for an experienced Technical Superintendent with relevant background to join our technical team in Bergen and support our expanding fleet. You will become a part of a dedicated team who are working to ensure an efficient operation of our vessels and provide a safe and good working environment for our crew.
Technical Superintendent
The new Technical Superintendent will be overall responsible for the safe and efficient technical management of an assigned group of ships, including all matters concerning daily operation of the vessels.
Main tasks
- Provide technical support, inspect the vessels, develop maintenance plans and take responsibility for cost effective dry dockings.
- Main point of contact ashore for the vessel, co-operate and work across all onshore departments such as, Crewing, SEQ, Insurance and Purchase as required.
- Prepare and manage annual vessel budgets.
- Ensure that all vessel certification and surveys for class, flag and international requirements are in order.
Relevant experience and skills
- Preferably higher technical education (Naval Architect, MSc) or CE with long sailing experience
- Proven track record within Fleet Management with a well-known Ship Management Company
- Understanding of vessel performance requirements and maritime legislation and its application
- Experience with relevant data systems
- Strong communication skills in English and one of the Scandinavian languages
The role requires significant international travel, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
