The Crescendo CD Player was born from in-depth research in which it was decided to implement technologies in the product that were previously only used in reference players. The challenge was undertaken with the additional requirement of maximizing the performance/cost ratio. This required Audio Analogue designers to explore new circuit solutions and led to results that went far beyond the already ambitious initial goals!
The transport used is the CD-5010A specifically designed by Teac for high quality audio applications. The CD-5010A was developed starting from a CD Rom mechanism by reducing its rotation speed to avoid mechanical vibrations. The reading process has been improved by decreasing in particular the jitter contribution. The Audio Analogue staff collaborated with Teac in the development and testing phase, in particular for the vibration tests.
The DA conversion circuit is made up of a Burr Brown 192KHz/24Bit very low recovered system clock receiver (residual jitter of 50ps!) and a Burr Brown 24Bit/192KHz DAC with Enhanced Multilevel Delta Sigma architecture. The conversion part is made on a separate board to avoid any interference between digital and analog circuits.
In this product Audio Analogue has focused heavily on the output stage where it was decided to undertake a new project line. We have created an active fourth-order filter which, together with the single-pole filter inside the DAC, forms a fifth-order filter. Such a high order of filtering (usually this type of approach can only be found in very, very expensive players!!!) allows you to "freely" choose the cut-off frequency of the output filter with excellent performance results, especially for what it's about defining the music scene. The problem with this approach (due to which it is not used except in very high-end products) is the increase in distortion and noise due to the high number of stages that the musical signal must pass through. Audio Analogue's designers have used all their experience and technology to design each part and choose each passive component in order to reduce overall distortion and noise, obtaining a surprising result after a long work!
The management software is the result of careful and long research aimed at making the most of the management of the CD-5010A mechanism for perfect sound performance and the best usability of the product.
