Work as a Tour Guide in Bergen with I Love Bergen!

Our guides are often mentioned in our many five-star reviews for their friendliness, knowledge, and enthusiasm. In 2025, we want to have a strong team of guides who can help us give all our guests a five-star experience in Bergen.

We provide guaranteed work from May until October, with an opportunity to work for us at a limited capacity over the winter season.

We require:

-     Fluency in English

-     Fluency or an understanding of Norwegian, German, French and Spanish is a plus

-     Flexible working hours with availability to work on peak days in summer

-     Knowledge of Bergen and Norway is important

-     Friendly, personable personality with interest in meeting and talking to others

-     Excellent storytelling

-     Service-minded and outgoing

-     Punctual, reliable and responsible

-     Able to work independently

-     We prioritise applicants who live in Norway all year (or most of the year).

 IMPORTANT - GUIDE COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Successful candidates will be required to participate in our guide course. Our guide course involves classes, walking tours, museum visits, bus tours and self-study. The course will take place throughout late March and over April, with the final exams towards the end of April. The guide course will require a small fee that will be given back over the summer season.

Our official course is certified by the Norwegian Guide Association and completion of the course will make you an authorised guide in Bergen. This will allow you to work in the city as an authorised guide under any company (though we hope you'll stay with us!)

Course fee: Our course is free to attend. We just ask that you join us three days a week for 2-3 hour classes.

Can't attend the course? That's no problem, reach out and we can work out an alternative :)

ENK

Our guides must be registered as an ENK, meaning you are self-employed (i.e. working as a freelancer). We do this so you can work as much or as little as you want; we don’t set a schedule for you. You choose the tours you want to lead. This also means that you can supplement this job with another part time job in Bergen, or with studies.

TASKS INVOLVED:

Among your tasks will be:

-             Setting your own schedule and committing to the tours you wish to take

-             Meeting, leading and taking care of groups on our public and private tours

-             Following our tour routes but also customising it to your own interests

-             Provide information to guests so they can enjoy their stay in Bergen

-             Contributing to the improvement of our tours

-             Customising private tours to the clients requests

-             Committing to a full summer season

-             Opportunity to contribute to our blog and social media (at additional pay) and show your love of Bergen!

All guides will also have access to our guide lounge in Bryggen with tea/coffee, kitchen, bathroom, and somewhere to relax between tours.

We also offer pay bonuses for five star reviews, and provide guides with tools to increase their tips.
