Research Assistant
Norges Bank is Norway’s central bank. The Bank’s task is to promote economic stability in Norway, and has executive and advisory responsibilities in the area of monetary policy and responsibility for promoting robust and efficient payment systems and financial markets. Norges Bank manages Norway’s foreign exchange reserves and the Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG). Norges Bank central banking operations and the GPFG together have about 940 employees from 38 countries.
Research assistant
Norges Bank’s research department has an opening for an experienced or recently graduated research assistant with an education and/or experience in economics, finance, econometric analysis, statistics, data science, preferably with electives in economics or finance, or a comparable education. Having studied economics or finance is an advantage but not necessary. The position is a one-year full-time position, ideal for candidates that have an interest in research and future PhD studies. The preferred starting date is in August 2025.
Norges Bank’s research department works on issues of relevance for monetary policy, financial stability and financial markets. Our researchers conduct high-quality research that addresses issues of interest to a central bank and is ultimately published in peer-reviewed international journals. They also provide research-based analyses to Norges Bank’s policy departments on topical issues related to the assessment of current and future economic activity, international economics and finance, monetary policy and macro prudential policy. In addition, researchers disseminate relevant internal and external research to Norges Bank’s staff and liaise with academic and research institutions.
Norges Bank’s research department organizes weekly research seminars involving external scholars and several conferences each year and has active visiting scholar and PhD internship programs.

Job description
Provide research support in the form of:
- Data collection, preparation and management
- Simple and advanced programming tasks
- Empirical modelling and quantitative analysis
- Organization of research activities, like seminars and conferences
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in economics/finance with a strong quantitative specialization, data science, machine learning, applied mathematics/statistics, or similar education
- Strong skills in empirical modelling, quantitative analysis, and programming (preferably Matlab/R/Python or advanced in Stata)
- Interest in economics and policy issues of relevance to a central bank
- Good communication and presentation skills
- The working language is English. Proficiency in a Scandinavian language is an advantage.

- Excellent ability to work in a team environment
- Structured and accurate with the ability to take initiative
- Please note that it is required that the candidate document good repute, well-ordered personal finance and a criminal record certificate. Information regarding educational and working experience will be verified. A prerequisite to appointment is that the candidate can be security cleared in accordance with the Norwegian Security Act
