Extraordinary but true stories from over a century of golfing history
Andrew Ward has researched over 100 years of golfing history to uncover some of the game's most memorable moments and rounds. There are tales of tragedy, interference from wildlife, weird weather and bizarre betting; stories of eccentric outfits, such as the golfer who played in armour to give a more 'polished' performance, odd tactical ploys such as the player who played with a handkerchief over his eyes, and recondite rules like playing a round of golf with the wrapping still on the ball.
Others defy categorisation, like the one about the star golfer who refused to compete in tournaments - "Mysterious Montague - the best golfer in the world'; another about a sensational trend-setter, and several concerning bizarre shots that dogged Greg Norman in the late 1980s and the early 1990s.
Golf's Strangest Rounds also features a number of other famous professionals. Nick Faldo and Robert de Vicenzo are included for their parts in irrational finishes; Al Geiberger and Chip Beck for record rounds; and Gene Sarazen for two famous shots nearly forty years apart.
All these and many more are to be found in this fascinating book, a must for all golf enthusiasts and for anyone with an interest in the history of the sport.
