Senior Banker
NORDIC INVESTMENT BANK (NIB) is an international financial institution jointly owned by the governments of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The Bank promotes sustainable growth of its member countries by providing long-term financing based on sound banking principles for projects that improve productivity and benefit the environment, including the green transition. The Lending Department at NIB is seeking a
Senior Banker
to drive new origination in the Norwegian energy sector and oversee NIB’s portfolio of existing customers with the aim of delivering on NIB’s mission, Lending’s strategy and business targets.
Main responsibilities
- Identify and originate new lending opportunities with Norwegian customers in the utilities sector.
- Lead and facilitate transaction teams in the execution of new lending operations and management of the existing customer relationships, including credit risk assessment, mandate due diligence, structuring, pricing, securing internal credit approvals, negotiation and documentation, disbursement, life-time loan asset management, monitoring, ex-post assessment follow-up and other reporting.
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of the energy sector, products, mandate, sustainability and ESG topics to deliver a high-quality service to the customers.
- Working with proficiency in Lending core applications.
- Contribute to lending business development, including system and product development projects.
- Represent NIB in public fora to market the lending business and increase awareness of the Bank’s mission and operations.
- Continuous development of professional expertise. Sharing of this knowledge throughout the Bank.
- Undertake other assignments that may be given by supervisor.
Qualifications and experience
- A master’s degree preferably in Economics, Finance, Law, Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 5-7 years of relevant experience e.g. from banking, finance or consultancy.
- Capability to represent NIB at a senior level.
- Fluency in a Scandinavian language and in English is needed.

- Initiative, pro-activity and problem-solving; ability to initiate and lead business development activities.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to lead teams of experts; build effective working relationships with colleagues and clients in a multicultural environment.
- Interest in power utilities sector and/or banking expertise; lending transactions structuring and execution skills, including knowledge of loan documentation, debt capital products and pricing; understanding of credit risks and mitigants.
- Integrity; ability to operate consistently within business guidelines and ethics.
- Communication skills; ability to communicate concisely and persuasively in verbal and written formats. Confidence in handling senior corporate executives and officials of government and regulatory bodies.
- Negotiation and decision making.
- Organizational and time management skills; ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
