grey-plate RCA ?? plates, later vintage: This tube was hands down the winner in every aspect in which I judged this lot. The low end was the fullest, yet it was also the tightest by far. Lots of gain on tap here, and this one drove the amp into the creamiest, yet raunchiest distortion of them all. What really set this one apart was the midrange focus and the sparkly top end. Overall, it is a perfectly balance tube for V1 in this circuit and is a perfect complement to the Sylvania long grey-plate in the phase inverter. I have to say that I was surprised that I preferred this tube over either of the box-plates, but I guess that's why we perform these tests.
