Assistant Underwriter
Bold covers for brave thinkers - that’s how NIORD will enable the Offshore Renewables industry of today and tomorrow.
It’s not just about our innovative, tailor-made insurance solutions. When you factor in the highest possible standards in service, founded upon our exceptional insight and proven experience - from claims handling and emergency support response to loss prevention and mitigation training and exercises, as well as legal advice and beyond – it’s no wonder NIORD is ‘Enabling endless energy’.
Such ambition requires a special team: talented individuals who combine expertise, experience and enthusiasm to create NIORD’s own very special kind of energy. Now, we have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our team in Bergen as an Assistant Underwriter.
Who we’re after
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to get into the world of Offshore Renewables insurance – no previous experience required! If you’re up to the challenge, we will train you in what it takes to become an Offshore Renewables Underwriter. Once you’re fully up and running, you’ll play your part on the NIORD team in ‘Enabling endless energy’ around the world.
Preferred qualities and skills
We are looking for a commercially minded team-player who’s structured and enjoys working in a dynamic, sometimes hectic, environment. Possessing at least a Bachelor’s Degree, you ideally have some engineering or other relevant background – however, this is by no means essential.
Strong communication skills are important, with fluency in English (oral and written) a must. Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be considered an advantage, while German, Spanish and French are also desirable. The preferred candidate will also have strong Microsoft Office skills and a passion for working with numbers and emerging green technologies.
For this role, you need to have a service-minded approach, be good at prioritizing tasks and be fully committed to learning the basics needed in order to lay a solid foundation on which to build your underwriting career. You also need to be a good ‘people person’ as client relationships, as well as those with the rest of the NIORD team, will play a vital role in your day-to-day work.
Tasks and training
You’ll get to work on several engaging process areas, including assisting and contributing to the build-up of NIORD’s portfolio. This will enable you to increase your market knowledge and get to grips with such basics as Estimated Maximum Loss and benchmarking. You will also learn how we make decisions as underwriters, among other necessary, specialist skills and know-how.
We’ll also help you increase your technical knowledge of the Offshore Renewables segment. This will be done by focusing on areas such as understanding typical risks when it comes to both construction and operation of offshore windfarms, as well as grasping the basics of wind turbines, sub-stations and cables within a dynamic offshore marine environment. You will also need to keep abreast of industry developments, trends and evolving technologies. As mentioned, relationships are a key area for NIORD and you will immerse yourself in how to market our products and services via valued, insightful interactions with brokers and clients.
For the successful applicant, the role of Assistant Underwriter promises to be a challenging-yet-rewarding first step on their career ladder with NIORD and the world of Offshore Renewables.
