ML/Data Engineer - sustainable fish farming

At BioSort, we develop products that utilize computer vision, deep learning, and biometrics to create individualized health records for farmed fish. Our technology improves fish welfare and sustainability while lowering production costs for fish farmers.

Our goal is to build a solution that seamlessly handles all stages from machine vision to treatment of fish, generating health records and timely reporting for better decision-making. We use a modern technology stack (Kubernetes, OAuth2, REST, Kafka, Datadog, etc.) to power our edge and cloud infrastructure. We focus on high-quality software development, using code reviews, testing, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines.

We recently completed the iFarm project and are now evolving key technologies into a simplified product launching later this year. You will have the chance to work on data infrastructure and processing systems for this new product.

To support this mission, we are looking for:

1. Senior ML/Data Engineer – Focus on data pipelines, ML model verification, training, and MLOps.
2. Team Lead – Software Infrastructure & Cloud – Focus on scalable cloud/edge infrastructure, DevOps, and system reliability.

Team will work closely with the Computer Vision team to ensure real-time data ingestion, efficient ML training workflows, and reliable data access for end users.

As a Senior ML/Data Engineer, you will:

• Develop scalable data pipelines to collect, process, and store real-time sensor data from underwater systems.
• Build ML pipelines for model verification, retraining, and deployment (MLOps).
• Implement efficient data storage solutions (structured and unstructured).
• Provide APIs and data interfaces for easy access to processed information.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and observability across all processing stages.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, software developers, and cloud engineers to ensure seamless data workflows.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in writing efficient and maintainable code (we mostly use Rust, Python and Typescript, but knowledge of specific languages is not required).
• Experience with SQL & NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Cassandra)
• MLOps expertise – Automating model training, deployment, and monitoring.
• Experience with cloud & hybrid data storage solutions (S3, GCP, Azure).
• Experience with development of REST APIs.
• Knowledge of message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Familiarity with modern DevOps and deployment approaches (Cloud, Kubernetes, GitOps).
• High level of autonomy and proactiveness.
• Good communication skills

Nice to have:

• Experience with ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with big data & streaming frameworks 
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Hands-on experience with observability & monitoring tools (Datadog, ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Experience with real-time data processing and edge computing.
• Familiarity with security best practices for cloud and data pipelines.
• Comfortable working with Linux servers, scripting, and automation.
