Gretsch Vintage Drums from 1971-72.

12x8 - 13x9 - 16x16 - 22x14" 6 ply maple shells and 14x 5.5 COB snare.

All Drums are in original condition and have been in deep dry storage for decades.

Interior of each shell is marked with serial number. All bearing edges of shells are straight and undamaged and show no sign of lamination separation.

Each shell shows extensive damage/ erosion to the thick clear coat lacquer only. All wood veneers are perfect. Crome cleans easily and shows no peeling.

The set was delivered in Norway with the simple Type 4936 Double Mount tom Holder (missing) and not the more usual Type4925/4937.

The 4936 tom holder bracket can be removed from the toms leaving only 4 small holes and not the usual large hole, common with the other vintage Gretsch toms of that era fitted with the 4925/4373 holders.

The sound of the shells is absolutely SUPERB, even with the old heads fitted for the photographs.

Condition.

12”: Bearing edges perfect, Hoops straight, Chrome- no peeling. One internal muffler missing (available on eBay).

13”: Bearing edges/ one very small dent on the bottom edge (see photo). Hoops straight. Chrome no peeling, both mufflers fitted.

16”: Bearings edges perfect, Chrome- no peeling. both mufflers fitted, original legs and lugs complete.

22”: Bearing Edges perfect and Front edge round. Chrome- no peeling, internal adjustable muffler on batter head, original spurs complete. Front hoop, claws and tension rods missing.

14” COB Snare. Shell shows no dents, Crome shows no peeling, hoops are straight, internal muffler complete. Snare throw-off lever broken, snare tension adjuster cover missing, Drum key holder missing. (parts available on eBay)

Set up options.

• Purchase a Type 4936 tom holder from eBay, new BD hoop and claws and recondition the kit back to original specifications

• Remove the tom plates and BD mount, and suspend the rack toms from the cymbal stands using RIMS

• Replace BD hoops, claws and spurs with new modern alternatives.

These original hand made shells are far superior to the USA Custom Maple options available today. Similar sizes will cost between 90-100 000 NOK.

These drums could be stripped and re lacquered back to original natural wood finish or wrapped in you favourite finish then suspended on modern hardware for a fraction of the price.

Would make a fantastic project for a complete renovation or to build a Frankenstein kit.
