A unique ancient coin from Parthian Empire! No damage (extremely fine), Silver (4.2 gr):
Mehrdad II, or Mehrdad the Great, KINGS of PARTHIA (Mithradates II), the third king of Pontus and the son of Ariobrazen, lived in 3 centuries BC. He was given the title of “great” because of his power and order in organizing the border of Iran. He came to power when Iran was the target of invasion by various ethnic groups.
His father died when he was young, but the time of his birth cannot be determined. It seems that he must have been born many years before 240 BC. A few months after his birth, the Gaul tribes attacked his father in 222 BC and drove him back. Upon reaching puberty, Seleucus II's sister Laodice marries him as a guarantee. Finally, Mehrdad defeated Seleucus in a great battle at Ankara in 239 BC, during which Seleucus lost twenty thousand of his forces and fled. In 222 BC, Mehrdad married his daughter Laodis to the Seleucid king, Antiochus III.
In 220 BC, Mehrdad declared war on the rich and strong city of Sinope. However, he was unable to defeat it and weakened himself, and the city did not fall to the Pentos kings until 183 BC. The date of his death is completely unknown.
