Additional Information:

OM are Oeschger Mesdach. One of the very few Spanish modern coins with no reference to the country name.

It was traditionally known as “perra chica” (small female dog), and the 10 Centimos coin as “perra gorda" (fat or big female dog), probably due to the rare position of the lion. When the coin was eroded, the animal could be considered by mistake, to be a dog. These traditional (vulgar) nouns were kept even with the new designs during the reign of Alfonso XII (similar in size and metal) and later in the regime of Francisco Franco (very different, in aluminium), just because of their value (5 and 10 Centimos of Peseta), no matter they had no lion.
