Tilstand: Pent brukt - I god stand
COLORS was a quarterly print magazine funded and published by the Italian Benetton clothing company in 1991. Created by graphic designer Tibor Kalman (1949-1999) and photographer Oliviero Toscani (1942-2025) "as a way of communicating the intelligence of the Benetton brand to an extremely sophisticated consumer" through a highly visual language. Convinced that the differences are positive and all cultures have the same value, Tibor Kalman used his position as Editor in Chief of the magazine Colors to creatively explore the world's problems (racism, AIDS) and preoccupations (sports, shopping) in order to propel social change. With the tagline "a magazine about the rest of the world", COLORS built on the multiculturalism prevalent at that time and in Benetton's ad campaigns, while remaining editorially independent from the group. It was published worldwide in multiple bilingual editions. From 1991, it was produced at Kalman's design studio, M&Co, in New York City until 1993, when the magazine operations moved to Rome, followed by Paris in 1995, and at the Fabrica research centre in Treviso, Italy, in 1997. The last issue of COLORS, #90, was published in June 2014.
I have a collection of 34 issues, including the rare #1 and #5, which I have acquired over the years, or picked at the Fabrica research centre in Treviso, Italy while I was doing my residency there in 2001.
