Bergen Kunsthall seeks a new Live Program Curator
Bergen Kunsthall is looking for an experienced candidate to take on the role of Curator for the institution’s extensive Live Program. The Curator will play a key role in the development of Bergen Kunsthall’s programming and will lead efforts to strengthen the institution’s position as a prominent arena for interdisciplinary and hybrid art practices.
The Live Program is developed in collaboration with a wide range of local, national, and international partners, and includes everything from Landmark’s concert and club nights to performative productions, the new initiative Live Studio, and a discursive program.
As Live Program Curator, you will be responsible for shaping the direction of the institution’s live initiatives and ensuring their strategic implementation in close collaboration with the rest of the team.
Responsibilities
The position will play a key role in the development of Bergen Kunsthall’s programming, particularly through:
Leading the strategic development and curatorial direction of the Live Program in collaboration with the wider team
Actively contributing to the strengthening of Bergen Kunsthall’s local and international networks
Budget responsibility, including funding applications and reporting
Coordination of program implementation in close collaboration with the production team
Actively contributing to audience development initiatives
Availability for evening and weekend work is required
Qualifications
We are looking for a collaborative professional with relevant experience who can contribute to shaping the direction of the Live Program together with the team. We are seeking someone with:
Higher education in relevant fields, preferably at master’s level. Significant relevant experience may compensate for formal education requirements
Broad experience in curating, producing, and communicating art programs
In-depth knowledge of international discourses and interdisciplinary expressions across music, art, and culture
Experience with budgeting, grant applications, and reporting
Excellent written and oral communication skills in Norwegian and/or English
The ability to build and maintain strong local and international networks
Experience with strategic audience development

Bergen Kunsthall is a centre for contemporary art, presenting exhibitions and events by Norwegian and international artists. The Live Program consists of more than 170 annual events developed in collaboration with a broad range of local, national, and international partners. The program consists of concert series, club nights, performative productions, the new Live Studio initiative, and discursive formats. The institution also offers a wide-ranging education and outreach program for visitors of all ages.
Established as Bergens Kunstforening in 1838, we have since 1935 been housed in architect Ole Landmark’s iconic building, which includes exhibition spaces, the Landmark café, and a bookshop, located in the heart of Bergen city centre. In 2024, more than 80,000 people, including 2,600 school pupils, engaged with Bergen Kunsthall’s program. The institution is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, the City of Bergen, and Vestland County Council.
