It's with a monumentally heavy heart, that I consider selling my beautiful, unique Volkswagen T2 Camper. Newly EU tested and ready for further adventures.
She's a piece of automotive history that makes everyone she meets smile.
Due to time restraints, she just isn't getting the use/attention she deserves from me so it's time to pass her on to someone who will love and care for her as much as I have.
I've been the lucky owner of "Cookie" since 2017 and never tire of the attention and adoration that she ignites in people. During this time I've added 300w of solar panels, a 150Ah lifepo4 lithium battery, a webasto heating system with 5L hot water tank (which is heated via the webasto).
The interior is completely custom, giving an incredibly light and spacious feel to the camper. The all leather interior is attractive, hard wearing and easy to keep clean. The kitchenet consists of a two hob gas stove and 12v fridge. There is an electric hook up available but I haven't used this since the solar panel installation.
This is a Riviera model T2 and was the first one off the assembly line in 1975. The van was sold and converted to a camper in Washington State USA by the renowned Riviera company, meaning the pop top roof elevates straight up, unlike Westfalia's which only elevate at one end. After spending half her life in the USA she was bought and shipped to the UK. Upon her arrival she had the interior completely renovated and a new paint job. I was lucky enough to pick her up 7 years ago. Throughout her entire life she has been dry stored and locked up for winters meaning she is completely solid and rust free (besides a few small spots on the body). She has also had treatments at Jæren anti-rust to keep her this way. You would be hard pressed to find a chassis in better rust free condition. There is seating for four people (with lap seatbelts in the rear) two up front in the incredibly comfortable cabin seats and two in the back bench seat. Making family trips or trips with friends a reality not often seen in a car of this kind.
The pop top provides a handy 'upstairs' bed and in combination with the very comfortable rock and roll bed there is sleeping space for 4 adults (who know each other well). A set of insulated window covers and curtains also help keep the interior toasty along with the insulation and webasto (which runs off the existing fuel tank, so no need for any fuss when you want to get toasty). I've also performed extensive (and I mean extensive) armaflex and refeltix insulation which helps on those colder nights.. There's also a 300w inverter for plugging in electrical items as well as multiple USB ports. There's also a GPS tracker installed, dimmable mood lighting, exterior light, awning, custom mattress, 'upstairs mattresses', some spare parts, lovely seats etc etc. I'll include pretty much everything I have... which is a lot.

The reality of owning a 1975 VW camper:
This is a 40 year old car and it drives much as it did in 1975. The reliable 1.8 litre engine does what it can, but despite weber twin carbs hills are always going to be a leisurely affair, in addition there is no power steering, electric windows and other 'modern' nonsense. However the feeling (and sound) of sitting behind the wheel in a machine like this in my opinion outweighs any drawbacks in terms of raw performance.
Ideally you should be willing to get your hands dirty or invest in regular maintenance with a reliable garage to get the most out of this car. It is a piece of history which will last and increase in value if taken care of and there is a certain responsibility that comes along with owning a vehicle like this. She doesn't ask a lot considering her age and what she will give you in return.
It's also worth remembering that this car will only increase in value with each passing year.
