Come join our fight to protect students and scholars! At a time of growing authoritarianism and declining democracies globally, we are strengthening our documentation, advocacy and campaigning efforts to protect student activists and human rights defenders through SAIH’s Students’ Rights’ Watch.
We’re establishing a new global advocacy role to help shape and accelerate this work. The advisor will join a cross functional project team, report to the Head of Communications and Advocacy and be part of the Communications and Advocacy Department.
SAIH values such as solidarity, inclusion and participation form the foundation of our work culture. As an advisor in the SAIH-team, you’re expected to work independently and develop the project and your role.
Responsibilities include:
- Have a central role in shaping advocacy strategies and plans related to SAIH’s key areas of focus such as human rights, higher education and academic freedom.
- Plan, organise and coordinate advocacy and mobilisation activities
- Identify threats and opportunities through tracking and analysing legislation, policies, government announcements and work of international bodies such as the UN etc.
- Support the development and implementation of campaign strategies, messaging and content
- Connect with relevant networks and decision makers
- Contribute to the development of SAIH’s voice in public discourse related to the key areas of our work. Ensure SAIH's partners perspectives in SAIH's advocacy work and identify opportunities for joint initiatives
About you:
You are value and results driven. The successful candidate has a mature and flexible attitude, displaying strong project and time management skills. Proven ability to work independently, and demonstrate strategic and analytical thinking.
Skills and experience:
- Relevant academic background
- Proven results with advocacy work
- Sound understanding of international political processes and human rights mechanisms
- Experience with actively building and maintaining a network of colleagues and contacts to achieve progress on objectives/shared interests
- Proven experience to multitask, take initiative and work under limited supervision
- Excellent cross-cultural communications skills in English - oral and written. Knowledge of Norwegian is an asset.
- Expertise on the human rights situation for student activists is an asset
- Capacity to see the big picture, but have a keen attention to detail and be hands-on
- Willingness to work in a team and to communicate with colleagues, as well as an eagerness to learn and network
- Proven experience to work with NGO projects and to report on the implementation of projects is an asset

- Salary placement from pay grade 53-62 in the state salary scale (483 700-563 900 NOK), and promotions up to pay grade 70.

- Brand new office space (in an old but renovated building) in Grønland, central Oslo - we are moving in September 1st.
