Position Summary
PGS is looking for a Legal Counsel to join the Legal department based in Oslo, Norway.
The Legal department in PGS is a separate corporate unit led by the General Counsel having lawyers in Norway as well as in Houston and London. Your specific responsibility for legal matters will be concentrated to PGS’s affairs in Europe & Asia Pacific, but you will participate in the global Legal team and provide legal support in an international environment on a variety of legal matters worldwide.
The Legal department supports the different business units and other corporate functions within a wide variety of business law. We work closely with the other departments in our offices both in Oslo and in other parts of the world, including with our colleagues in the Legal departments in Houston and London as well in the Compliance & Internal Audit department.
Main Tasks
- Supporting business units and corporate functions within a wide variety of business law in day-to-day operations and large projects
- Drafting and reviewing contracts, and leading contract negotiations
- Providing assistance on regulatory and compliance matters
- Managing dispute resolutions
- Performing M&A and joint venture work
- Being responsible for other varied legal based tasks within the organization
- Retain and instruct external counsel where required
Required Qualifications
- A Norwegian Master degree in law with good academic results, but candidates with foreign law degrees may also be considered
- Minimum of 5 years relevant business law work experience, but candidates with somewhat shorter experience may also be considered
- Strong professional integrity and high ethical standard
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or several of the following special fields are preferable:
- Contract law (including contract drafting and negotiation)
- Corporate and securities law
- M&A and JV
- Regulatory and compliance matters, such as anti-corruption, trade sanctions and export control
Other qualifications:
- Fluent in English
- Self-starter who can take responsibility for a wide array of tasks
- Analytical, with strong written and communication/social skills
- Commercially minded with a pragmatic approach to challenges and risks
- Active and engaged
