Reporting to the Technical Product Lead - Orca, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible to deliver product improvements and lead the mechanical modifications / updates of the products and documentation. When applicable lead other engineers in the development, perform testing and Service follow-up of the updated designs. The position has main workplace in Bergen, Norway and reports to Technical Product Lead.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will design and build modified/updated designs for the Orca ESS, necessary test jigs and fixtures to prove and determine performance or feasibility of the modified designs using Solidworks CAD software.
Responsibilities include:
- Update and improve designs and documentation for quality, cost improvement and manufacturability purposes.
- Work with various stake holders within the organization to best understand all necessary design requirements.
- Participate in corrective action activities specifically for mechanical non-conformances. Assist by completing root cause analysis investigations and implementing necessary corrective actions via the 8D process as may be assigned.
- Complete design concepts, testing, validation, and implementation of mechanical parts.
- Coordinate strength and thermal analysis (FEA) and fluid flow analysis (CFD) when required.
- Update and maintain the Orca ESS Bill of Materials (BOM) with adequate revision control.
- Some travelling can be required for follow-up at Corvus manufacturing sites, suppliers and in Service.
Functional skills
- Perform 3D modelling + assembly and 2D drafting / detailing capability, with high focus on detail.
- Work with Solidworks CAD software.
- Experience with building and releasing components and assemblies (BOM), with knowledge of product life-cycle management.
- Knowledge about FEA, DFMEA’s, risk analysis and volume manufacturing.
- Electrical or electronics experience with knowledge of battery systems.
- Hands on experience with prototype building and problem solving. Knowledge on 3D printing would be a bonus.
- Ability to adhere to office responsibilities, systems, and procedures.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Education
- Mechanical Design or equivalent engineering degree (BSc/BEng, MSc/MEng) with minimum 5+ years of experience.
