Help us build a European market for CO2 transport and storage services
Northern Lights JV DA is executing the first phase of the Northern Lights (NL) project with start-up in 2024, allowing for 1.5 mln tonne CO2 stored annually. We are speeding up the expansion, referred to Phase 2 of the project to 5 min tonne annually and seeking to further expand into Phase 2 and beyond. We are building a portfolio of commercial customers who seek to safely store their CO2 emissions and to launch a European wide CCS business in alignment with all three shareholders aspirations.
Northern Lights is looking for a Commercial Advisor in Norway who will lead negotiations with customers, land agreements and subsequently execute and operate the agreements according to the terms agreed. The role will be key to manage and influence stakeholders, build good and sustainable connections and relationships both internally and externally, support and integrate the delivery of Phase 1, 2 and support growth for Northern Lights.

Your role
As a Commercial Advisor in Northern Lights, you will support and participate in business development in a market that is in an embryotic stage.
The key to success will be to bring people, technology and business cases together in new, structured and innovative ways.
You will be leading and supporting negotiations with customers to enter into transportation and storage agreements for CO2, and your tasks will include:
- Develop a fit for purpose negotiation strategy
- Secure mandates to negotiate and approvals of negotiated agreement
- Maintain alignment with other functions, such as economics, legal, technical, shipping and finance, as well as other relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure technical, financial and integrity due diligence is performed timely
- Agreement implementation and operationalisation
- Support the Northern Lights growth strategy
- Represent Northern Lights in external events
What we need from you?
The Northern Lights team operates with a "one team" and a strong new business mentality with support from shareholders both directly and through various Service Agreements. You will need to be willing and able to challenge conventional thinking and approaches to arrive at innovative, fit for purpose and effective business outcomes.
More specifically:
- Experience from Business Development and/or asset commercial roles
- A deep interest in and understanding of the energy transition (“det grønne skifte”) and how it affects existing and future value chains
- A desire to make a difference
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to see the ‘big picture’ and support strategic analysis.
- Customer focus
- End to end value chain thinking
- Ability to apply a risk based approach, and balance multiple priorities
- Ability to deal with complex stakeholder environments
- Contract development and management experience
- Experience from a joint venture setting
- An understanding of the importance of ethical behaviour and safety focus, combined with a high level of personal integrity.
Qualifications
You have a university degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Law, and 5-15 years of experience within the energy sector or industrial players.
You have excellent skills in communication, both verbally and in writing, in Norwegian, English. Other European languages are a plus.
A willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (within Europe) is a requirement.

Northern Lights JV is responsible for developing and operating CO2 transport and storage facilities, open to third parties, as part of Longship, the Norwegian Government’s full-scale carbon capture and storage project. When it starts operations in 2024, it will be the first ever cross-border, open-source CO2 transport and storage infrastructure network, shipping CO2 to an onshore receiving terminal at Øygarden on the Norwegian west coast, before being transported by pipeline for permanent storage in a reservoir 2,600 metres under the seabed.
