Your role and responsibilities
As a R&D Engineer, Paint Process, Mechanical, you will contribute to ABB’s success with technology, product, and system development. Identifies and implements innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will provide ideas and work both independently, and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.
Your responsibilities:
- Work as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.
- Perform various tasks in the assigned area (mechanical, process diagrams for robot painting equipment) from building concepts, gathering requirements to design, implementation, integration, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations.
- Stay abreast of the state of the art in their own competence area, as well as new and evolving technologies.
- Design mechanical elements of painting robots, including concept, 3D models, 2D drawing, analysis, and testing.
- Create and modify process diagrams for paint systems.
- Design the Paint Systems according to industry standards such as standards relevant to machines operating in explosive atmosphere (IECEx/ATEx) and robotics standards (ISO 10218-1)
- Apply their own innovative/creative ideas to create value and propose concrete follow-up and improvement activities/projects.
- Understand and apply applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
- Document work results (like findings, designs, or process diagrams), allowing others to maintain and improve them.
- Write well-structured and concise technical reports and/or scientific publications, for internal and external audiences.
- Share knowledge and supports colleagues in applying the lessons learned to ensure timely and high-quality results.
Qualifications for the role
- MCs or BCs degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, or similar
- Minimum 3 years of prior engineering work experience
- 3D and 2D CAD experience (SolidWorks, Inventor, Onshape, Fusion360, etc)
- GD&T experience
- Experience with mechanical calculations, both analytical and FEA
- Robotics experience is preferred, but not necessary
- Process design (paint, hydraulic, pneumatic) is preferred, but not necessary
