As a Department Manager you will lead a team of talented engineers within your discipline, leading the team’s development in accordance with the company strategy and objectives, and ensuring your team is focused on project deliverables.
You’ll ensure project deliverables are met while driving continuous improvement and innovation.
The position reports to VP Engineering and Completion.
Key Responsibilities
Discipline Development:
- Manage a team responsible for design, drafting, calculations, and work preparations.
- Drive innovation and best practices, enhancing the department’s engineering capabilities.
- Promote a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure procedures are regularly updated and compliant with industry standards.
Talent Management & Workforce Planning:
- Lead, mentor, and develop team members, identifying and addressing talent gaps.
- Plan workforce needs to align with project and business forecasts.
- Implement strategies for recruitment, training, and development to maintain a skilled team.
Project Collaboration:
- Ensure optimal resource allocation and engineer assignments for projects.
- Facilitate communication between the Structure & Outfitting department and project teams.
- Monitor project progress to ensure quality standards and deadlines are met.
Sales & Business Development:
- Promote the department's capabilities and support sales and BD teams in conventional and renewables segments.
- Keep project references and CVs updated to meet client and market expectations.
- Participate in sales meetings, setting the agenda for discipline involvement in business development.
Global Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Worley’s global teams, sharing expertise and aligning on best practices.
- Contribute to global engineering standards and processes.
Engineering Methods & Tools:
- Ensure engineering methods and tools are effective, updated, and aligned with department needs.
- Work with IT to maintain and improve engineering software.
Budget Responsibility:
- Manage the department budget, focusing on resource efficiency and accurate forecasting.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Proven leadership experience in engineering.
- Strong knowledge of laws, standards, and client requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Expertise in one or more engineering disciplines.
- Experience in project management, sales, business development, or low-carbon projects is a plus.
