Researcher in global health and climate-resilient health systems
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated researcher with a background in health system research to ensure sustainable and climate-resilient health systems in a global context. The position is organizationally located in the Global Health Cluster, which is one of four clusters or centers within the Division of Health Services at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. The researcher may also be expected to contribute to projects in other parts of the Division and the institute as whole.
The person we hire will work at the intersection of research and implementation towards our vision of strengthening health systems and contributing to better public health in low- and middle-income countries. The cluster is interdisciplinary, and our employees often work on multiple projects at a given time. By strengthening our team with expertise in sustainable and climate resilient health systems and planetary health, we will contribute to developing and strengthening health systems and primary health care services that are robust, adaptable, and prepared to effectively tackle health emergencies and manage the health consequences of climate change.
Main tasks
- Lead and conduct ongoing and future research and implementation activities for strengthening sustainable and climate resilient health systems
- Support our partner institutions in developing robust and climate resilient health systems
- Foster cross-functional collaboration among teams to effectively incorporate climate change and planetary health considerations into our projects, e.g., through project meetings, designated tasks, external partnerships, and knowledge sharing
- Network and engage with relevant stakeholders to foster partnerships and advance collective efforts to develop and strengthen robust and sustainable health systems
- Write grant applications and secure external funding for research and implementation projects and activities
- Conduct research activities and write reports and peer-reviewed publications, including literature reviews and evidence syntheses
- Coordinate tasks and dissemination activities (e.g., implementation plans, seminars, workshops)
Qualifications
Qualification requirements
- PhD within a relevant topic, for example public health, global health, epidemiology, medicine, health economics, or economics
- Experience with health systems research with a focus on sustainability, climate change, pollution, and/or planetary health
- Advanced skills and expertise in quantitative methods
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Comprehensive understanding of implementation research/science
- Experience with climate change and health in low- and middle-income countries
- Experience with public health communication
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Norwegian (at least B2 level)
