We are looking for an experienced and motivated FPGA Principal Engineer to lead FPGA development at Ocean Technologies, a division in Kongsberg Discovery. This role involves strategic responsibility across our product portfolio, where FPGA plays a crucial role.

Kongsberg Discovery serves the ocean space from the deepest sea to the outer space. We develop technology to ensure sustainable management of marine resources, monitor climate change and critical infrastructure, and safeguard national security. In addition to having a key technical role in Ocean Technologies, you will be part of the Mapping team, where we develop a range of echosounders used to map the shallowest rivers to the deepest oceans.

About the Position

As an FPGA Principal Engineer, you will lead the development of innovative solutions and work closely with both our hardware and software teams. With us, you will:

• Lead and set the direction for FPGA architecture and development across products with varying needs in low power, signal processing, real-time systems and high precision.
• Work hands-on with development, testing, and implementation of FPGA solutions you will be part of the entire process from idea to the finished product.
• Contribute to system design and ensure optimal data flow through the system, with the opportunity to work with low-level software.
• Be an important part of a larger FPGA community, both in Ocean Technologies and KONGSBERG.
• Modernize and develop our FPGA platform by exploring new technologies and tools and promote reusable and scalable FPGA modules.
• Attend courses and seminars to stay updated on new technology and developments in FPGA and related fields. We support continuous learning and skill development.
• Being supported by global partners and suppliers like Xilinx, Altera, and Microsemi, providing you with the best tools and resources to succeed.
  
  

Who Are You?

We are looking for someone with solid experience in FPGA development, especially in VHDL. You have a good system understanding and the ability to choose the right technology and balance hardware and software to create the best solutions.

You also have

• Experience working in teams and understand the importance of good version control and interaction between hardware and software developers.
• The ability to make informed technical decisions and understand when to share solutions between products or adapt them to specific needs.
• Good communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to create a safe and open work culture where technical discussions can thrive.
• A desire to work physically at our office, with the opportunity to actively participate in testing, development, and production.
