PhD position
The Faculty of Medicine, The Department of Clinical Science , is offering a full-time PhD-position for a duration of four (4) years or a maximum of up to 4 months post-PhD completion, if the degree is achieved in less than four years. The position includes 25% mandatory duties such as teaching, exam work, or supervision, depending on departmental needs.
The position is part of the project “Personalized CAR design for haematological paediatric malignancies (Ped-HemaCAR) and funded by the University of Bergen.
About the project/work tasks:
- Development of Preclinical models of paediatric Acute Leukaemia's
- Patient-derived xenograft models
- Humanized avatar models
- Development of CAR-T constructs and CAR-T cells
- Immunophenotyping of paediatric samples and patient-derived xenograft models
- Phenotypic characterisation and Efficacy studies in vivo
Development and evaluation of induced pluripotent CD34+ stem cells
Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must possess a Master`s degree or an equivalent in Pharmacy, Immunology or Molecular Biology. Candidates with an M.Sc in Pharmacy, who fulfill all the criteria of Qualifications and Personal Qualities below will be prioritized.
- Candidates must have knowledge and practice of molecular biology techniques (Cloning, PCR, CRISPR/CRISPRi gene targeting, sequence analysis)
- Must be willing to learn and perform in vivo studies (i.e animal handling).
- Have experience with data processing and statistics, including relevant statistical programs.
- Must have a knowledge in hematological malignancies.
- Must have experience with advanced primary cellular culture (i.e. T cell isolation and expansion.
- Must have experience with basic analytical biochemistry techniques (western blots, protein assay), and experience with immunological methods (e.g. ELISA).
- Have experience with multicolour flow cytometry and Immunohistochemistry.
- Must have experience with data processing and statistics, including relevant statistical programs.
- Must have experience with the isolation and expansion of CAR-T cells.
- Must have experience with in vivo imaging (i.e. IVIS).
- Experience from relevant research projects will be considered as positive
- The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a structured manner, while also being capable of effective collaboration with others
- The applicant must exhibit both the ability and motivation to undertake a PhD project.

About the PhD position:
About the PhD position: The duration of the PhD position is 4 years. At least three years of work should be dedicated to the doctoral research. The remaining time is allocated to other career-promoting work that will help the employee qualify for relevant careers that require research competence.
Organized research training (PhD program): The selected candidate will be required to enrol in the University of Bergen's approved PhD programme, aiming to complete the degree within three years. Admission to the organized research training (PhD program) at the Faculty is essential for this position.
Application for admission to the PhD programme, including a project plan outline for the training plan, must be submitted no later than three months after the date of commencement.
The PhD-position: PhD-positions are fixed-term appointments. Candidates cannot be employed in a PhD position for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution, nor have held a similar position at any institution within the region.
